Jack Grealish erases Frank Lampard Champions League record from history as fans label Man City ace ‘undroppable’

JACK GREALISH broke a 14-year-old Champions League record held by Frank Lampard following his performance in Manchester City’s thrashing of Real Madrid.

The former Aston Villa man, 27, played a key role in Pep Guardiola’s men dismantling the holders 4-0 at the Etihad to claim a 5-1 aggregate victory on their way to a second final in three years.

Frank Lampard’s chance creation record for an English player in the Champions League has now goneReuters

In the process, Grealish has now accumulated 35 key passes in the competition this season.

That is a record for an English player in a single Champions League campaign, eclipsing the 34 Lampard racked up during Chelsea‘s 2008/09 run to the last four – where they lost to Barcelona.

It continues a superb season for England‘s £100million man after a difficult first year with Man City.

He has contributed five goals and 11 assists and is now a regular in Guardiola‘s team – keeping out the likes of Riyad Mahrez, Phil Foden and Julian Alvarez.

Speaking after the game, Grealish said: “I am just buzzing to be in this moment. It is so nice.

“I don’t think a lot of teams would be able to do that (win 4-0) against Real Madrid. We felt unstoppable. I don’t know what it is.

“I saw a stat the other day about our record here in the Champions League, we have won every game here in the competition – its unbelievable.

“We feel unstoppable this season and nobody can beat us.

“When you see what we did tonight, and against Bayern Munich and even Leipzig, its unbelievable.”

Man City can clinch the Premier League title with a win over Chelsea on Sunday.

They then face rivals Man Utd in the FA Cup final on June 3, before the Champions League final against Inter Milan on June 10.

Win all three and they will become just the second English team to complete the treble after Man Utd achieved the feat in 1999.
