I’ve been on holiday ten times this year using a simple money saving hack

A WOMAN has revealed a clever online hack that she claims can almost cut the price of flights in half.

With the cost of plane tickets rising as quickly as everything else at the moment, it’s important to try and save money anyway you can.

It turns out there’s a simple trick that’s worth trying, according to Tiktoker Kia (@ikeeyah), who has become well-known online for her travel advice.

Speaking to another Tiktok account, Talk Twenties (@talktwenties) she explained how using private or incognito browsing could bring the price of flights right down.

In a video titled “Save money on flights & holidays! Kia used this trick to go on 10 holidays THIS YEAR” she said: “I will look at a flight and I’ll say, ‘Okay, cool. This flight is 150 pounds,’ for example.

“Then I go in private browser mode and that same flight, nothing’s changed. I’ve seen it for £110, £115 pounds.”

The channel’s host Gaby Mendes replied: “What a hack. I didn’t even know that was a thing.”

Kia admitted it doesn’t always work, but said she always looks just in case.

She continued: “I always double check – sometimes [the price] is the same.”

Asked how the trick worked, Kia said that it was because of cookies from airline websites, although didn’t go into much detail.

However, website Popsugar explained: “Most airline websites monitor to see if you’ve visited in the past and what sort of flights you searched for by using browser cookies, which are files created when you visit certain websites.

“The reason they do this comes down to a process called dynamic pricing, in which airfare prices fluctuate according to demand.”

Kia revealed that she had almost cut the price of one of her flights in half before, adding: “One of the flights that I initially saw was about £70 pounds return.

“And then I did private browser mode and I managed to get it for £38.”

The video has been seen more than a million times, with other users saying they had been successful with it too.

One wrote: “I just tried it and got my flight 50 pounds cheaper!”

Another said: “Yes, always look for flights & hotels in incognito!”

A third added: “I’ve always done this when holiday searching and booking.”

There are other ways in which travellers can save money on flights, including booking or flying on certain days of the week.

That’s according to travel booking company, Expedia, who published their 2024 Air Travel Hacks Report earlier this year.

The report claims that people booking flights on Sundays could get their airfare as much as 23 per cent cheaper than if they booked their tickets on a Friday.

Choosing the right day to jet off could also cut costs, with Friday and Sunday switching places.

Flights that depart on a Friday, the cheapest day overall, could be as much as 26 per cent cheaper than flying on Sunday, which is the most expensive day to fly on average.

Booking the right amount of time in advance can also help people find cheap travel.

According to Expedia, the perfect moment to buy tickets is 112-132 days in advance.
