According to TikTok user @scottykilmerofficial, mechanics frequently charge for repairing oil leaks – even if they don’t truly need to be fixed.
He said on the video: “This is an old engine, you can see oil in various places, but when you look underneath, there’s nothing dripping on the ground.
“They (mechanics) will tell you, we’re going to have to take the engine apart and replace all these seals – and it’s going to cost you £950.
“But this tiny amount of oil is not going to damage anything, but if it’s leaking on electric parts like the alternator, you will have to fix the liquid.
“But this alternator is born dry, there’s no oil on it. I have seen this scam being done thousands of times over the last ten years.
“So if your engine isn’t leaking oil all over the place, not even touching the ground, leave it alone.”
The video has gone viral on TikTok – with more than 113,000 views on social media and users praised him for his content.
One said: “Thanks bud, old scam.”
Another said: “This is why no one trust mechanics.”
A third pointed out: “I am gonna learn so much from this guy.”
This comes after a car expert revealed how to spot mechanic scams that could end up costing drivers thousands.
