A MUM has revealed what a common dashboard symbol really means and how it can save you vital time when refuelling.

In the short clip, Atinuke filmed herself appearing dumbstruck while sitting in her car, staring at the low fuel light illuminated on her dashboard.
Narrating a voiceover, she said: “I was today years old when I found out that this arrow when you run out of petrol on your car tells you which side your petrol door is on.
“Please tell me I’m not the only one.”
She was referring to the fact that on many motors, the fuel warning light is accompanied by an arrow pointing right or left.
This lets you know which side of the car the fuel filler cap is on, so you don’t have to search around for it while at the pump.
It can also help you choose which pump to go to as many forecourts have dispenser facing both ways.
If you know your fuel tank port is on the left-hand side of you car, it’s probably best to pull into a filling bay with the machine on the same side rather than testing the range of the filler pipe by trying to stretch it around the back end of your vehicle.
