Little things really do mean a lot when it comes to keeping your car on the road for many years to come, according to the former F1 mechanic.
Speaking exclusively to Sun Motors, he emphasised the importance of basic maintenance being carried out well and often.
Marc said: “Look after your car.
“It’s the simple things like oil, keeping your oil topped up but also regular oil changes.
“The really basic stuff, which is really dull and boring for many people, is really important.
“It’s going to keep the car alive and save you from going to a garage, which is going to cost you money.”
While it may all seem mundane, fluid changes, regular servicing and gentle, consistent driving can make or break your motor.
Thankfully, most of these things can be easily done from home with a little know-how.
For example, changing your oil every 5,000 to 7,000 miles only takes about half an hour but can save you big in the long run.
Doing it yourself means you don’t have to pay a professional to do it, but even if you go to a garage you’ll be better off.
While you may have to pay a few quid for the service, that’s hundreds less than you’ll need to shell out if you forget to change your oil and your engine seizes.
Likewise, Marc also shared a nifty trick to save yourself some money on fuel.
He explained: “Keeping tyres in good condition and well inflated will save you money in terms of fuel efficiency.
“There’s lots of little tiny things and they’re all really simple.
“Ultimately those base-line, basic maintenance things are really what keep your car going and save you money.”
Based on the average size of a car’s fuel tank in the UK, improving your fuel economy by just one mile per gallon could knock tens of pounds off your annual fuel bill so it’s worth making sure your tyre pressure is within the range set out in your owner’s manual.
It comes after a government minister warned that EVs could be hijacked by hostile states to spy on the UK.
