John Farnham AO, one of Australia’s greatest and most beloved music icons, is releasing a memoir.
Titled The Voice Inside, the long-awaited publication has been produced by Hachette Australia and Talentworks who today announced the upcoming release.
The book, “told in his own words and with his inimitable humour, insight and humility” will cover Farham’s personal and public journey through life and the music industry, Hachette Australia reveals in a media release.

Notoriously private, fans have been wanting a memoir from the Aussie music icon for years and he’s finally taken pen to paper.
”Having been asked many times, it finally felt like the right time to sit down and tell my story,” Farnham says.
“It is a very strange feeling looking back on my life, on the good and the bad, and now that I have started, it is all rushing back. I hope the book engages and entertains, because that’s what so much of my life has been about.”

The memoir has been written in partnership with award-winning writer and director Poppy Stockell, who directed the critically acclaimed Farnham biopic Finding the Voice (2023).
The book revisits some of the “remarkable highs” of Farnham’s life including his childhood in Melbourne, reaching pop stardom in the 1960s and a decades-long touring career.
But it also delves deep into some of Farnham’s biggest challenges.
From facing financial ruin, navigating a devastating mouth cancer diagnosis and grieving his long-time friend and manager Glenn Wheatley, the book is one of triumph and tribulations.

Stockell says “its been a joy” to work on the project and she “can’t wait” for the world to “get an unfettered glimpse of the man whose music is the soundtrack to so many of our lives”.
“Working with John on his memoir has been like sitting down with an old friend, who also happens to be an absolute legend, to share stories that are both deeply personal and wildly entertaining,” Stockell says.
“His resilience and sense of humour shine through every recollection, making this project a genuine reflection of the man behind the music.”
The Voice Inside by John Farnham with Poppy Stockell will be published in November 2024.
