Inside the bizarre award-winning ‘Teletubbies’ hotel with mountain views – and it’s near a wonder of the world

HOLIDAYMAKERS are going dipsy over a hotel that looks straight out of an iconic 90s kids’ TV show.

The Wifala Harmony Hotel is set in the Peruvian mountains and travel fans think it is just like Teletubbyland from The Teletubbies

Reminiscent of Tinky Winky, Dipsy, Laa Laa and Po’s psychedelic “Superdome” home, the 4-star accommodation features dome-shaped windows, quirky giant flowers on the outside walls and it is surrounded by lush green grass.

The bedrooms are painted white and feature splashes of bright colour thanks to the bedding and abstract artwork on the walls.

One room even has a sunrise coming up over the headboard of a large round bed.

Fans of The Teletubbies will remember that each episode began with a giggling baby sunrise, and it would set when the show came to a close.

Travel enthusiasts have now gone wild for the Wifala Harmony Hotel after it was shared on Booking.com’s Facebook page.

Comparing the hotel to the popular children’s show, one person wrote: “Is that the Teletubbies house?!”

Another added: “Will Laa Laa and Tinky Winky be there?”

While someone else asked: “Have the Teletubbies moved out?”

Booking.com even joined in with the fun and replied: “Maybe they headed to Peru to enjoy their retirement! Although they looked pretty young to retire, don’t you think?”

The Wifala Harmony Hotel is located in Urubamba, Peru.

Each of its 14 bedrooms have mountain views, a minibar, a flatscreen TV and a private bathroom.

There is also an “allergy-free” restaurant on site and guests who are keen on exploring the local landscape can hire bikes.

Last year, it was given a TripAdvisor Travellers’ Choice Award.

A standard room costs as little as £77 per night for two people, including breakfast.

While overnight stays are relatively cheap, flights from the UK to Peru are a little pricier, with a return journey costing around £600.

One holidaymaker who stayed at the hotel while visiting Machu Picchu gave it a glowing review.

They said: “Stepping out of our airport transfer, we were met with large doors that slowly opened, revealing a stunning architectural marvel adorned with vibrant greenery.

“Opening the door to our room, we were greeted by a breathtaking view and impeccable accommodation.

“Every day, we were treated to a delightful breakfast featuring an abundance of choices like chocolate-covered pancakes, yogurt with granola, fluffy omelettes, and invigorating coco-leaf tea.

“If you plan to visit Machu Picchu or delve into the wonders of The Sacred Valley, let Wifala Hotel be your base camp.”

Another guest said the hotel “blew his mind”, adding: “Its crazy design is like from outer space, so cool, perfect for your Instagram if you have one.“

Sadly, the real Teletubbies house is no more.

The original set, which featured during the show’s run between 1997 to 2001, is now underwater.

Located in Wimpstone, Warwickshire, the farmland was flooded by the landowner Rosemary Harding.

According to the Mirror, the owner was tired of fans of the children’s TV show trespassing on her land.

Rosemary admitted: “It’s been underwater for a decade now and is bustling with wildlife – it’s our home and we are glad to see the back of it.

“This is a rural area, where people enjoy the quiet life. It was never that way when the set was around.”

Landowner Rosemary Harding and her husband Rex said they received £1,000 a month from the production company during the period of filming.

Holidaymakers who don’t want to flock to Peru will be relieved to know there’s some TV-inspired accommodation right here in the UK.

One of those places is Shire’s End, an underground pod that’s been built into a small hillside, making it look like it’s been plucked straight out of Hobbiton.

Meanwhile, here are the quirky holiday homes you can stay overnight in the UK.
