Inside popular Ford motor named UK’s best selling car in 2023 – as EV version looks set for sale this year

A POPULAR Ford motor has been named the UK’s best selling car in 2023 – with an EV version looking set for sale this year.

The Ford Puma was first released in 2019 yet continues to be a firm favourite with Brits and across Europe as we enter 2024.

The subcompact crossover SUV closed out 2022 as one of Europe’s best-selling new vehicles before continuing that success throughout 2023.

More than 49,500 units were delivered to customers in the UK over the last 12 months, Ford Authority reports, with the most popular variant being the ST-Line X.

The in-demand model, a 6-speed manual, is powered by a 125 horsepower mild hybrid powerplant.

But what makes it particular favourable to UK drivers is its easiness to use, style, and all-round fun factor.

On the financial side, offers on the Puma as well as used bargains make it more affordable than many rivals.

“I’m delighted that Puma was both the best-selling vehicle and car in the UK and Transit Custom was best-selling commercial vehicle in 2023,” said Lisa Brankin, Ford UK chair and MD.

“This terrific achievement in 2023 is a great foundation for us to step forward into 2024 and roll out our electrification plan at pace in both the car and van markets.”

The Ford Transit Custom also closed out the year as the UK’s best-selling commercial vehicle, while the Ford Ranger recorded its best-ever sales result in the UK at 18,700 units.

What’s really caught the attention ahead of this year, though, is Ford’s expected release of an EV version of the Ford Puma.

The American manufacturer revealed a teaser image last year, with a release set to be sometime in 2024 – although an exact date has not been provided.

The Sun have contacted Ford for comment.

Ford hasn’t yet revealed what battery sizes will be used on the Puma EV, although it’s expected to be similar to that of the EV van, which comes with a 134bhp/290Nm front mounted electric motor.

There will be numerous EV-specific tweaks, however, such as a closed-off front grille to improve aero efficiency, a new LED running light design and a slightly cleaner lower front bumper.

Elsewhere, a classic Ford Capri that will transport you back to the 1980s could be yours for just £4,000 – but it’ll need some work.

The vintage motor is a dream addition to any collection and boasts a five-speed gearbox with 7 Spoke alloy wheels.

And an incredibly rare Ford that’s the only one of its kind left on the road is also up for sale.

This sole surviving Granada 1989 Mk3 is a V6 4×4 Ghia, which according to the DVLA is the only one left that’s registered on the road – and it can be yours for a surprisingly reasonable price.
