‘Incredibly cute’ Mini left in garage for over 30 years & ‘passed down a generation’ set for stunning restoration

AN EARLY Mini from 1960 is set to undergo restoration… after being left in a garage in Wigan for over 30 years.

Classic car enthusiast Jonny Smith of the YouTube channel The Late Brake Show visited the Foster family in Greater Manchester to unearth two classic British motors – one in the garage and one sat outside in the backyard.

The motor’s owner Steve, who grew up in the house, explains to Jonny that the Mini has been in the family for decades – having originally belonged to his parents.

Steve said: “I remember being a small kid and it used to sit up the side of the house next to another Mini that was used for parts.

“We used to just play in them all the time.”

Jonny describes the classic as “really cute” and is told the Mini has “lived in the garage since the mid-1990s”.

Steve says he’s adamant that the Mini will stay in the family and be used on the road, with it set to be taken to a restoration company.

Steve said: “The Mini is getting a nut and bolt restoration, we want it as new.”

After inspecting the car, which includes pumping up the tyres and checking the engine and spark plugs, and a bit of extra work, the car briefly is able to fire up.

Steve reveals that it’s first time he’s ever started up the motor, saying: “I’ve never been allowed to sit in the driver’s seat before and start it, that’s the first!”

Away from the garage and the Mini in the house’s back garden is another British classic; a Reliant Scimitar.

Sadly, the Scimitar has been left outside to face the elements for decades, although Jonny does find a retro selection of tapes inside – including albums by Shirley Bassie and Barry White.

This comes after an iconic Delorean, known for featuring in the Back to the Future films, became mice-infested after being left to gather dust in a barn for more than 20 years.

Elsewhere, a Ford Capri racing car with an iconic livery and incredible history is up for sale and could be yours an eye-watering six-figure price.
