A CLASSIC Ferrari sports car that can hit almost 200mph and belonged to tycoon Mohamed Al-Fayed is up for sale.
The 1977 Ferrari 512 Berlinetta Boxer RHD supercar is expected to sell for a whopping £300,000.
The 50-year-old classic Ferrari is expected to sell for £300,000
The flash motor was kitted out with fancy red leather seats
The car had a top speed of 190mph
The sports car was just one of a number of Ferraris owned by the former Harrods boss
The car is finished in Argento Silver with red leather interior Daytona seats complete with black inserts, red carpets and has factory-fitted air conditioning and a stereo
It was supplied new to Maranello Concessionaires Ltd in April 1977 for their dealer Cooper Car Sales, Leicester.
Al-Fayed was the first owner who then sold it in July 1984 with a recorded mileage of 7,700 miles.
There is also an official letter from Tony Willis confirming both vehicle identity & Al-Fayed as the first owner, having taken delivery on October 6, 1977.
A recent service was carried out, including cam belt change & MOT, by Shiltech Performance Cars Ltd, Loughborough, in October 23, 2023 with 19,519 miles on the clock.
The engine was powerful enough to produce 360bhp, taking the Ferrari from 0 to 62mph in around 5.4 seconds and on to a top speed of nearly 190mph.
In November 2014, a 1977 Ferrari 308 GTB Vetroresina, which had been owned by Al-Fayed, sold at auction for £129,375.
The former owner of Harrods bought the flash motor in 1991 although it was rarely taken for a spin.
The 308, first produced in 1975 was the first car Ferrari produced using a fibreglass body.
Only 154 right-hand drive Vetroresinas left the Maranello factory, making it the rarest model 308 money can buy.
Al-Fayed’s children organised a charity auction in 2008, and it was there that the car was generously donated as one of the lots in the night’s proceedings.
While the businessman was famed as the owner of Harrods he also has an impressive car collection and some of the motors he owned were put up for sale in 2011.
IMPRESSIVE CAR COLLECTION
Amongst his enviable motors sold at the time were various Ferraris including a 1979 Ferrari 400i Coupe and two 1988 Ferrari Testarossas.
Another was a 1972 Ferrari 365 GTC/4 Coupe as well as a 1966 Ferrari 330 GTC Berlinetta.
He also owned a 1965 Ferrari 330 GT 2+2, which is thought to have been previously owned by John Lennon.
Al-Fayed also owned a 1930 Rolls-Royce 20/25hp Sedan de Ville and a 1963 Rolls-Royce Phantom V Limousine, once owned by the Duke of Kent.
Topping up his collection of Rolls-Royces was a 1969 Rolls-Royce Phantom VI Limousine and 1992 Rolls-Royce Phantom VI Landaulet.
RARE MASERATI
Al-Fayed also bought a rare Maserati Merak 3000 in the 1970s, eventually passing it on to his son Dodi Fayed, who would date Princess Diana.
Just 781 Meraks were ever made in the 1970s.
This model even includes a gold plate showing its first owner as the former Harrods and Fulham boss.
The Merak made its debut at the Paris Motor Show in 1972 and featured a mid-mounted engine like many supercars of the era from Lamborghini and Ferrari.
It was named after the Beta Ursae Majoris, a star in the northern circumpolar constellation.
And Al-Fayed bought this rare model from the Maserati factory in 1973 before shipping it to his London car collection in 1980.
Under the bonnet is a 3.0-litre V6, producing 190bhp, that was capable of over 150mph.
The car went up for auction in 2017 with a £200,000 price tag.
Dodi was tragically killed in a car accident in Paris with Princess Diana.
The car can do 0-62mph in around 5.4 seconds
