His grandfather first bought a 2.0-liter 911 Targa S that was followed by a 2.2-litre 911 S and then a 2.4-liter S.
“When a bright-yellow Carrera RS 2.7 joined the ranks, I realised I was officially addicted,” said Dirickx.
Once he’d passed his driving test, his grandfather let him drive the 911s himself and there was no going back after that.
John bought his first Porsche, a used 911 T, when he was just 18 years old.
Since, he has built up his collection to around 50 models of all different colours, years, engines and values.
If he had to pick a favourite, it would be his 911 R from 1967, of which only 20 were built.
“The holy grail,” says Johan. “Unfortunately, it’s so valuable, that you really shouldn’t drive it anymore.”
But he doesn’t just look at his collection sitting in a garage, Johnan is handy behind the wheel too.
He has competed in some of the world’s toughest races, including the 12 Hours of Sebring, Le Mans Classic and twice in 24 Hours of Daytona.
But Johan prefers rallying and in particular, drifting: “In the winter I practise on frozen lakes in Scandinavia,” he said.
