Weghorst scored eight and assisted four in 16 Turkish league games before he got a second bite of the cherry in the English top flight.
He made his Red Devils debut on Wednesday, leading the line for Erik ten Hag’s men in the 1-1 draw with Crystal Palace.
His debut lasted 69 minutes before he was pulled off for Scott McTominay.
Ex-Liverpool and Tottenham ace Redknapp has admitted he was shocked to see Weghorst join the Old Trafford club.
The pundit also went on to say he’s sure that the 30-year-old’s “couldn’t believe it” when United came calling.
Weghorst flopped in the Premier League for Burnley, where he only scored twice and couldn’t help the club avoid relegation to the Championship.
Redknapp said ahead of his debut: “Any centre forward you want them to be a focal point when you have it and when you haven’t you want them to understand the press.
“It’s an amazing signing.

“I can’t lie I never thought I would see him in a Manchester United shirt and I’m sure his agent couldn’t believe it when he got the phone call.”
Weghorst himself has admitted the call to join the Red Devils left him shocked.
The Dutch international said: “Over a week ago now.
“My agent called me actually for the first time and I was together with my girl, and she was a little bit shocked because she saw my face and I was like ‘oof’.”
Redknapp says Weghorst could be a useful weapon for United, who appear to be in the title race.
Ten Hag’s side are eight points behind league leaders Arsenal and had they held on last night, that would be down to six with the two sides meeting at the Emirates on Sunday.
Sky Sports pundit Redknapp continued: “He’s got good players around him.
“He is going to have (Bruno) Fernandes playing one-twos off him.
“Good managers keep picking him in squads and internationally.
“It’s a dream come true for this guy.
“We’ve seen it before some signings just really work for a team. He gives you options, set-pieces for and against.
“They’re out of fashion number 9s, there is not many in world football.
“Him and (Erling) Haaland are scoring goals. Everyone wants a number 9 as it gives you something different.”
