‘I’m so sad right now’: Amy Shark’s sudden surgery pushes star to cancel upcoming tour dates

Amy Shark’s tour has come to a halt due to a sudden need for surgery.

Taking to Instagram, the Adore singer told fans that she was told she needed immediate surgery after recently experiencing “some very uncomfortable moments”.

The 37-year-old posted a snap of herself with tear emojis falling from her eyes as well as a screenshot of a statement she prepared in her notes app.

“Just found out that I need surgery ASAP,” the statement read.

Opting to keep the details private, Shark assured her fans not to worry, noting she was “all good”.

Her recovery time, however, also means that the star was required to cancel her upcoming tour dates.

“I will need a month to recover, meaning I have to cancel the North American tour next month,” she wrote. “I’m so sad right now.”

“I’m very sorry but I need to focus on my health,” she continued. “I hope you’ll understand and I promise I’ll be back as soon as I’m recovered. Much love from sad Amy.”

Shark was due to kick off her tour in Washington on September 6 and continue through to September 26 when she’d perform her final show in Los Angeles.

It’s no doubt the news has made her feel “so sad”, the singer known for building strong connections with her fans.

Just last month, the singer spoke exclusively with 9Honey Celebrity about being approached by fans on the street.

The I Said Hi hitmaker said there are six words her fans usually utter when they first see her in public.

“A lot of kids run up to me and say, ‘Tell your mum I said hi’,” Shark said. “Some people cry because my songs remind them of a past lover.”

Shark’s songs do, indeed, have a profound impact on listeners, young and old.

She hit the big time with a string of hits, beginning with her 2016 song Adore, which won her two ARIAS. But sometimes, as she explained, there is an underbelly to such success.

“Success can sometimes bring out the worst in you and the people around you,” she said. “But luckily I have some very incredible people in my life that keep me grounded and legitimately want the best for me.”

The Gold Coast-born musician, who was born Amy Louise Billings, also acknowledged that fame in her industry is never born overnight.

Her 2018 album Love Monster, which catapulted her into stardom, was the result of a lot of hard work and, as she put it, “hustle”.

“I feel very proud of the songs I have released and how the hustle over the years has paid off and all the incredible opportunities and experiences music has allowed me to have,” Shark added.
