AN EXPERT mechanic says an item everyone has in their boots will ruin your motor and cost you thousands.
Motoring whizz Nathan said jump leads can fry your car’s battery if you are not careful.

He refuses to use jump leads at all – no matter what motor he is working on.
Nathan said: “I can’t remember the last time I used these – I actually had to dig for forty minutes to even find them.
“The issue with these is that if you’re inexperienced you could clip the positive to the negative and blow everything up.
“A lot of these cables can also be really thin – and they’ll get hot.
“When you’re laying over your fender, they’ll get really hot – I’ve seen that happen several times.
“That could cause immediate damage to your car.”
Nathan said you should use an Audew jump pack to start your car instead.
