I’m an expert mechanic – engine feature millions of cars have could be deadly… check if yours has it NOW

AN expert mechanic has urged drivers to check if their car has a potentially deadly engine feature which affects millions of motors.

Scotty Kilmer took to his YouTube channel to warn car owners about the issue that “hardly anyone is talking about”.

He posted a YouTube clip discussing the dangers of direct fuel injectionYouTube/@scottykilmer

He advised caution around cars with a Gasoline Direct Injection (GDI) system, which is known as Petrol Direct Injection (PDI) in the UK.

The system is designed to improve engine efficiency and slash harmful emissions by injecting pressurised fuel directly into the engine’s combustion chamber.

Most engines run on a manifold system, where the fuel is injected into an intake manifold which then leads into the combustion chamber instead.

Scotty said: “In gasoline engines, it has a deadly side effect.

“More fine particulates come out of a GDI engine because of the way they operate.

“Most scientists are now admitting that [these particulates] create cancer in humans breathing them in.”

He explained that diesel engines have used direct injection for decades, as diesel requires a higher pressure to burn properly, but most diesel cars are fitted with particulate filters to deal with this.

It is also why emissions standards in areas like London’s ULEZ are stricter on diesel cars than on petrol equivalents.

But the rise in the use of PDI engines to an “insane” level is set to make pollution worse, according to Scotty.

He attributed the boom in their popularity to the fact that they produce lower levels of carbon dioxide and have better fuel economy than non-PDI cars but urged drivers to consider the possible health effects.

The EU already regulates the level of particulates cars are allowed to produce, but countries like the US, China and India have no such laws.

And now that the UK is not bound to adopt EU laws, it is possible that PDI cars could slip through the regulatory net.

Social media commenters were stunned by the revelation.

One wrote: “Scotty talks about the stuff that others won’t talk about.”

Another added: “Another great informative video by Scotty. Thanks Scotty for all you do.”

It comes after Scotty explained why he feels that electric cars are little more than a scam.

Meanwhile, Brits were issued an urgent warning over a seemingly harmless activity that could make driving deadly.
