A MECHANIC has revealed the mistake drivers always make with their air conditioning that leaves them hotter and wastes fuel.
The motors expert at Fixter said that most people don’t realise they are actually costing themselves extra money by using the climate control system incorrectly.

They explained that, while it seems “natural”, turning the air con on as soon as you get into the car will actually make things worse.
The expert said: “It’s tempting and seems the natural thing to do, but it’s not the best way to cool your car down on entry.
“Before the compressor has had a chance to start cooling the air, you’ll just be moving the existing hot air around your car at high speed.”
This is also a waste of money as running the system drains your battery and, since it requires the engine to be running, burns fuel.
Instead, drivers should start in low mode and gradually increase intensity as the air cools.
If you don’t you could be throwing money away, especially with fuel prices as high as they are.
The mechanic also recommended using the lowest temperature setting regardless of whether you want it a little warmer inside your car, as the air con always cools to a set level.
Instead of trying to heat the car back up, which burns yet more fuel, just adjust the fan speed to slow the distribution of cold air.
Other air con-related tips included pointing the jets towards the roof not yourself to circulate the air better and turning off the air con before the engine when you reach your destination to avoid damp in the system.
