A former hotel manager has revealed the items guests can take without getting into trouble

In a recent video, she explained which two items holidaymakers can take from the hotel without getting into any hot water.

She said: “You’re allowed to take the shampoo, conditioner, and soap from the room you’re checked into, especially if you’ve already opened them because they’re just going to get tossed out anyways.

“But if you’re walking past the housekeeping cart, don’t just help yourself.

“Instead, you should just ask, they’ll be more than happy to give you extras if you want.”

As well as clearing up the confusion surrounding bathroom miniatures, she also explained some etiquette behind hotel buffets.

She added: “If you’re staying at a hotel that offers a continental breakfast, you can take it upstairs.

“You don’t have to sneak food up to your room, and most hotels don’t mind if you want to take an extra couple of pieces of fruit or a muffin.”

The video has had 330,000 views on the social media platform with users rushing into the comments to share their gratitude.

One person wrote: “This is amazing news! People have been so afraid to take a plate with them, now they don’t live in fear.”

Another added: “Thanks! I’ve always felt bad taking an extra piece of fruit or muffin for my kids for the road.”

One holidaymaker had already been taking advantage of the continental breakfasts, they added: “We go to hotels with full hot breakfasts. We eat downstairs, and then fill up our plates and bring them upstairs.”

But some hotel guests weren’t as lucky, someone else added: “I actually got stopped once when I wanted to take some food upstairs.”

But this isn’t the first time a travel expert has declared what items holidaymakers can take from their hotel rooms.

Last year, Paul Bayliss, who is the general manager of Hotel Brooklyn, explained that “pens, pads and bath products are the norm” to be taken.

But he also explained the things that have surprised him: “We have also had some who have taken cushions, pictures, quilts, and even mattresses and televisions.

In 2019, hotel guests were caught stealing mattresses from their rooms, with some of them costing thousands of pounds each.
