I’m an EV driver – I can’t travel more than 250 miles without having to wait for hours at a charging station

AN EV driver has complained that he can’t make it more than 250 miles without having to wait for hours at a charging station.

The motorist slammed electric cars for their limited range and the poor charging infrastructure that supports them.

He posted a video to YouTube to express his grievance to viewers.

In the clip, he said: “When you drive an electric car, you have some time on your hands.

“Make sure you bring a book or find some type of hobby.

“You’re going to be doing one of these every 250 miles.

“You’re going to be sitting around at a charge station like I am.”

The frustrated driver panned the camera around to show his car hooked up to a bright orange charging point.

He then showed that his car was half charged with only 143 miles on the range and indicated that it had taken 45 minutes to get to that point.

All he could do was “wait and watch” as the miles slowly ticked up on his dashboard.

He added: “It’s the way of the future people.

“At least 30-45 minutes waiting.

“I don’t like it, but gas prices are high so…”

However, he would surely be distressed to learn that even that may not justify the wait in the UK nowadays.

One Leeds-based EV owner claimed that public charging was a hidden cost of driving an electric car, with prices now equivalent to or exceeding the cost of filling up a petrol motor.

Similarly, new data revealed that traditional cars are actually much cheaper to insure, with some firms refusing to cover EVs entirely.

It comes after a group of residents pushed back against a planned housing development on top of an electric bus depot over the fear of battery fires turning blocks of flats into a “volcano”.

Meanwhile, a man who lives in a Tesla explained which big convenience he misses.
