I’m a Wi-Fi expert at Sky and customers are making three ‘connection killer’ mistakes – fix it for instant speed boost

NINE out of ten Wi-Fi problems turn out to be an issue with where people put their router, according to experts at Sky.

Whether you’re with Sky or not, Aman Bhatti, Director of Propositions for Broadband and Talk, has revealed to The Sun three key mistakes that households make.

And fixing them could boost your router’s connection instantly.

The worst rooms

The room you choose to put your router in can make all the difference, Aman explains.

“The Wi-Fi hub if you imagine it is essentially emitting signal all around, so our best advice is to try to not put obstacles in the way of that and by having it in a central place in the home,” he said.

“So things like storing it away in the cupboard and underneath the stairs for example, can cause some challenges with connections.”

Some customers have even put theirs in the garage, which doesn’t allow the connection to spread properly at all.

Get the height right

Height is also really important for your router.

Aman says the best place to keep it is “ideally not on the floor” but “elevated slightly so that signal can get around the house”.

Avoid big metal objects

Metal objects pose a really big problem for Wi-Fi signals.

So putting your hub right by common household items is a bad idea.

“Things like fridges, if you’re using your microwave for example and it’s close to your hub that can cause interference as well,” he continued.

One that people also forget is Christmas tree lights.

“If you imagine, that’s a mesh of metal at the core of it,” Aman said.
