Channel 4 presenter Cathy Newman has told of being ‘haunted’ when her investigations found deepfake AI porn of herself being circulated onlineChannel 4 Handout
Cathy said: “It’s bizarre. It’s an image that is my face, but it’s not my naked body.
“Also, it doesn’t have my hair because apparently AI can’t yet do curly hair, so it was a little bit of a strange thing. It kind of looks like me and yet it’s not me.
“My first reaction was this is just bizarre. Then the longer I watched, I just got more and more disturbed because it’s really graphic sexual activity.
“It just feels violating because it looks really realistic. If you didn’t know that wasn’t my body, you’d assume I’d put that video out there.
“I thought it would just be my head superimposed on someone else’s body but it’s just completely sort of seamless.
“After I’d seen this video it kept returning to my mind. You know, it’s haunting . . . it feels degrading and it feels dehumanising and you feel dirty.
“We got in contact with the major big tech companies. Google, for example, said they would immediately escalate it and try to de-rank the video. But the fact remains it is still there.
“The millions of women affected by this don’t have that voice and it’s not just women, it’s girls.
“It’s our children who are facing this onslaught and it’s going to do terrible damage to society.”
