The Lake District welcomed more than 18million tourists in 2022 and is usually popular in the summer months.
But psychologist Dr Marianne Trent explained how the Lake District is ideal to visit to stay healthy in winter
In collaboration with holiday cottages Wheelwrights, she explained why you should visit when the cold months draw in.
She said: “The Lake District is a particularly wonderful place to support your mental and physical health during the cooler months.
“That’s because it can be difficult to feel connected to nature or appreciate the landscape when we are sitting in a traffic jam or working at a computer.”
She said not only is being in nature more “therapeutic” but she said the parts of the Lake District have no phone service – meaning you can switch off.
Dr Trent explained: “Mobile phone signal isn’t always the best in the Lakes so rather than that being problematic you could choose to use your time away to enjoy a mindful break from being switched on.”
Not only that, but the Lake District is also popular with outdoor sports, which is great for both physical and mental health.
She continued: “You could try kayaking, paddle boarding, cycling or walking.
“The benefits to our mental and physical health can be plentiful.
The Lake District is home to Lake Windermere, England’s largest natural lake as well as England’s highest mountain, Scafell Pike.
It was even voted the second most beautiful national park in the world.
A study conducted by Travel company Travelbag put the Lake District just behind the Grand Canyon in the US.
The Lake District has also been used for inspiration by famous authors and poets, including Wordsworth and Beatrix Potter.
