I’m a mum living in a van with my toddler… now I’m turning double decker BUS into our dream tiny home – here’s how

A SINGLE mum who has been living in a van with her toddler is now building their dream tiny home – inside a double decker bus.

Jas, 25, is almost nine months into her unique project and has captured the attention of thousands of Brits who can’t wait to see the finished article.

Alongside her toddler son, Bertie, the pair can’t wait to officially call their green double decker bus “home”.

Jas bought the public transport vehicle from a man in Cornwall, who happened to be a bit of a hoarder and helped her get the ball rolling with lots of free materials.

The single mum got rid of anything that wasn’t salvageable but managed to retain plenty of items – mainly wood.

Converting the bus out of completely free materials, Jas has found her project to be very cost effective.

Wood has also been donated to her, while anything lying around the scrapyard where the bus is located has also been a major boost.

In fact, the only thing Jas has had to spend out on was a screw.

As for home comforts and necessities, a trip to IKEA saw her buy a wicker basket.

But almost nine months of hard work is beginning to pay off, with Jas already making impressive progress.

Documenting her progress on TikTok (@jas_in_a_bus), viewers have been able to watch the conversion step-by-step.

Jas has decided to build her kitchen and seating area on the bottom floor, using all the materials donated to her.

On the top deck, Jas will put in bedrooms for her and Bertie, with a shower room and hallway also included.

In one of her videos, Jas admitted that progress slowed down during summer holidays as her and Bertie enjoyed time together on days out and at festivals.

And when she had to work, Jas was left with just evenings in which to continue her project.

During the bus conversion, Jas and Bertie have been staying in their converted VW van – where it all began.

Jas converted the old and rusty vehicle in 2020 so she could “show her son the world” and travel.

She said: “We saw the most amazing sights and we were so lucky to have this time together.”

The pair also spent a short time living in a caravan, before finally purchasing the double decker bus.

Elsewhere, a woman has given a glimpse into her life in a converted school bus which she transformed into a cozy home for her and her cat.

Van lifer Renae shared her story with Bob from the CheapRVLiving YouTube channel, including how she saved big on the build by doing most of it herself.

And a couple who are also converting a double-decker bus to live in after being unable to afford a house say it will be there dream home.

Carpenter Ed Gunner is transforming the orange double-decker, which cost just £7,000, into a flat on wheels.
