Kris, who is based in Miami, Florida, told viewers that the batteries in hybrid cars have a filter, which is vital to the smooth running of the vehicle.

He said: “Hybrid vehicle owners, listen up.

“A lot of you guys might not be aware of this but your hybrid battery has its own filter.

“This filter is used to catch any sort of debris like hair and dust, which prevents it from building up inside your hybrid battery.”

However, he warned that it’s essential to have this filter changed regularly to prevent a build-up of dirt blocking off the battery from the air.

If this happens, it makes it harder for the battery to cool down and can lead to damage.

Kris added: “Without the proper amount of airflow across your hybrid battery, your battery cells will overheat and prematurely fail.”

According to Kris, fixing failed battery cells, or even having to replace the whole unit, can cost thousands and leave your car effectively unusable.

He recommended having the filter services at least once a year or every 15,000 miles.

Social media commenters were stunned by the revelation.

One wrote: “I need to know where this is.”

Another asked: “How do I clean this?”

A third added: “Honestly, I’d clean it every oil change.”

It comes after another mechanic revealed the car brand he would never buy.

Meanwhile, a motors expert explained how you can save hundreds on your car insurance with a few simple tips.
