I’m a flight attendant – dressing smart won’t get you an upgrade….but can get you some freebies

A FLIGHT attendant has revealed dressing smart won’t get you an upgrade – but it can get you some freebies.

Trey Antwan has been an air steward for 16 years and has now lifted the lid on how moving seats to first class actually works.

While some may think it’s all about how you look and what you wear, it couldn’t be further from the truth.

Acting overly friendly won’t do it either.

Some stewardesses even told how they don’t have any choice on who gets an upgrade – and handing them out could see them get the sack.

Miami-based Trey told Sydney Morning Herald: “You won’t get an upgrade [dressing smart].

“But maybe a free drink.”

If you’re travelling long haul and have the option to upgrade, airlines have a strict system for doing so.

Flight attendants don’t have authority over seating assignments and can’t decide on who deserves an upgrade.

Vinia DiGeronimo, who has been in the industry for five years, said: “I know that if I were to upgrade someone out of order and not go by that [upgrade] list, I would get in so much trouble.”

Pal Amber, who has been doing the job for eight years, added: “There are times where the people who actually pay for economy plus will call the airline and ask for a refund because they saw people moved up for free.

“And we can get terminated for that.”

It comes as a woman revealed how a secret button gives passengers more space on a flight.

Tiktoker Rosie Doal showed how a button found under the hinge of an armest enables passengers to create extra room for themselves on a flight.

Flight attendants have also been talking about what they take onboard.

One flight attendant named Sophie said she always packs eye drops for long-haul flights to avoid getting dry eyes.

Eye drops can be bought for as cheap as £2 online.
