I’m a car expert – Tesla isn’t fit for purpose…I was hit by two major issues and important button SNAPPED OFF

A CAR expert has claimed that Teslas aren’t fit for purpose after he was hit by a number of issues with the EV.

Marc Priestley, 46, a host of the popular TV series Wheeler Dealers, has hit out at Elon Musk and the US car manufacturer over the company’s customer service.

Marc, a former F1 mechanic, said he was “disappointed” with the maker of the electric vehicles, claiming it had refused to solve two problems.

He branded Tesla as being “not fit for purpose” after saying that customer service teams had refused to honour his warranty agreement.

The presenter, who is known as F1 Elvis, hit out at the firm after revealing his car’s steering wheel was “delaminating”.

Marc also said his seat control button had simply “snapped off”.

Posting on X, formerly known as Twitter, Marc wrote: “I love my @Tesla, but I’m so disappointed with the customer service.

“My seat control button snapped off during normal use and my steering wheel’s delaminating, all within the first year, yet #Tesla say the warranty doesn’t cover them! Surely it’s not fit for purpose @elonmusk?”

Marc was quickly contacted online by Tesla Owners UK asking him to send them a direct message for support.

Other users of the social media site tried to reassure Marc he would not lose out.

One person said: “The steering wheel will definitely be under warranty, know of people in the forums that have had that done. Assume you’ve done this all via Service in the app?”

Marc though replied that he had been told by Tesla it was “definitely not” covered by his policy.

It seems other motorists have faced problems with their steering wheel.

A commentator responded: “It seems it’s a known issue with the steering wheels. So how many will they have to replace in the three years. You’ll be on wheel four by the time your warranty runs out!”

While another posted: “That’s appalling. This sort of thing should always be mentioned in car reviews so buyers are aware of which firms treat customers well and which ones don’t. Don’t buy a Tesla again I guess. Hope you get it sorted anyway.”

Others though came to the defence of Tesla, with many saying they’d had a positive experience dealing with the company’s support teams.

One user added: “That’s disappointing to hear Elvis, have dealt with the service department up here multiple times and never had any issues always seem to bend over backwards to assist us, and replace things under warranty no problem their mobile guy/assistance is also top notch.”

The Sun Online has contacted Tesla for comment.
