I won Strictly and there’s a sad secret about the Glitterball trophy, says EastEnders’ Kara Tointon

STRICTLY Come Dancing winner Kara Tointon has revealed the Glitterball trophy is made from cardboard and is “falling apart”.

The 39-year-old actress took home the coveted prize back in 2010 alongside Artem Chigvintsev, and has shocked Strictly fans by shedding light on the ‘truth’ behind her win.

Speaking on the Celebrity Catch Up: Life After That Thing I Did podcast, Kara said: “It’s now bald. It’s a bloomin’ bald, grey cardboard ball.

“I feel like saying to the BBC, ‘I need some maintenance on this please! If you can get round here and shimmy it on together again’.

“It should come with a lifetime guarantee.”

Discussing what it was like on the show, she added: “I still cannot believe that I won the show.

“It’s my victory in life and I take it with both hands.

“You’re doing something that is completely out of your comfort zone in every sense, but a really one-off life experience that I look back at so fondly.”

Kara ended up dating her dance partner Artem after meeting on the show and they dated until 2014.

She went on to date Marius Jensen who she had two children with.

The couple quietly split earlier this year, with a source telling The Sun at the time: “Kara and Marius quietly separated around ten months ago.

“There was no wrong-doing on either side, and they both still care about each other.

“But they came to the decision that there was no future for them as a couple.

“They remain friends, and are both very committed to co-parenting their two children.”
