I was shocked when bizarre pregnancy side effect left me looking like two different people

A WOMAN went viral on TikTok after sharing pictures of a bizarre pregnancy side effect that made her unrecognisable.

Tyreece Woods, 24, was near the end of her first trimester when she noticed her nose began to change.

Towards the end of her first trimester, Tyreece Wood noticed that the size of her nose began to change

By the end of her pregnancy, the mum-to-be felt “disgusting” and didn’t “recognise” herself when looking in the mirror

Tyreece said there aren’t many pictures of her while pregnant as a result

She didn’t think much of it at first.

But as the weeks went on, the mum-to-be saw her skin texture also looked different.

On top of that, one of her eyebrows became more prominent.

By the end of her pregnancy, Tyreece said she didn’t “recognise” herself when looking in the mirror.

“The changes made me feel disgusting,” Tyreece, who works as a Direct Support Professional in the US, told NeedToKnow.Online.

“Dealing with your body changing during pregnancy is already hard but looking in the mirror and not recognising yourself is disheartening.

“That’s why there aren’t many pictures of me pregnant.”

Tyreece said she’d never heard anyone speak about the symptoms she experienced throughout her pregnancy.

The mum-to-be was prepared to see a change in her weight and hormones.

“But in reality, my skin and hair texture changed, one of my brows became more prominent, I gained 100lbs and my skin got darker as well,” she recalled.

Strangely, her partner and family members didn’t notice the change in her appearance until after she had given birth.

She said: “I did ask my husband and family members if they noticed a difference and they always said either no, or maybe a little.

“My husband only pointed it out after our son was born and we were looking back at the hospital pictures.

“That’s when he realised that my nose was normally a lot smaller.”

Tyreece decided to share her story on TikTok in a bid to make light of the situation.

“Posting the TikTok was supposed to be a jab at myself,” she said.

“I thought it was hilarious so maybe other people would too.”

The video – which showed a collection of images before and during her pregnancy – has gained more than 15.4 million views and 1.8 million likes.

It has left users incredulous, with many commenting the photos are of two different women.

Tyreece said: “A lot of people are in disbelief, or saying it must be fake or editing.

“Some women are telling their stories, and some are thanking me for putting something so real out there.”

Thankfully, her nose went back to its normal size one month after her baby boy arrived.

She’s not the first mum to take to TikTok to show her ‘pregnancy nose’ – one woman was left stunned after her nose ‘tripled in size’.

According to clinical anatomy professor Adam Taylor, your hormones will see a significant increase when you’re expecting, which could make your nose expand and change.

And while you’ve heard of the so-called pregnancy ‘glow’, you might not know that three in four expectant mums could experience a common condition called melasma where the skin around the eyes, nose, chin and upper lip darkens.

The NHS detailed a number of symptoms and health problems which are normal to experience during pregnancy. While most are harmless, there are some you should keep an eye out for.

Common pregancy symptoms

You might have a number of symptoms while you’re pregnant.

Some of these include:

constipation
cramps in your muscles and feet
back pain or headaches
bleeding gums
peeing a lot or experiencing incontinence
skin and hair changes
varicose veins

The NHS advised you call your midwife or GP immediately if you experience vaginal bleeding.

And though morning sickness is common, the NHS also urged that you contact your GP, midwife or 111 if you’re vomiting and:

have very dark-coloured urine or have not had a pee in more than 8 hours
are unable to keep food or fluids down for 24 hours
feel severely weak, dizzy or faint when standing up
have tummy (abdominal) pain
have a high temperature
vomit blood
have lost weight

Increased vaginal discharge can also be common, but you should get help if it smells strange or unpleasant, if its green or yellow and if you feel itchy or sore around your vagina.
