I was left stranded when I broke down on side of the road – RAC lost my £20k motor, it got dumped at a garage miles away

A MOTORIST who was stranded on the side of the road after a breakdown has accused the RAC of losing their £20,000 car.

The driver, named as TB, alleged that their Land Rover was carried off on a recovery truck before being “dumped” without a care.

In a letter to MailOnline, TB, from Essex, wrote: “Unfortunately, my 65′ plate Land Rover couldn’t be fixed by the side of the road and it was too late in the evening to take it to a garage.

“The RAC patrol person said that they would call a contractor to tow it to a secure compound with CCTV, where it could be stored safely until I could book it in at a garage.

“The first slot I could get was in six weeks, but the RAC told me it could stay at the compound until then.”

However, when the time came for the motor to be transferred to a local garage, TB claimed that it was lost in transit by the same third-party contractor.

A call to the garage apparently revealed that it had not been delivered and the contractor allegedly denied that the car was ever taken to their compound.

Instead, TB said that they were told it had been taken to a different workshop miles away from their home on the day of the breakdown “because it was nearer” to the breakdown site, on the instructions of the RAC.

They added: “I went to hunt down my car. I found it left unlocked out in the open, outside the garage.

“The manager told me it had been ‘dumped there without any customer information’.”

The RAC has now apologised to TB and offered them £300 in compensation as a “gesture of goodwill”.

A spokesperson for the Club said: “Disappointingly, our recovery partner gave us inaccurate information on the location of his car.

“We’re addressing this with them so that it doesn’t happen again.

“We deal with thousands of vehicle recoveries every week without any problems, but we’re sorry that he didn’t experience our usual high level of service.”

MailOnline later revealed that TB’s car has since been repaired by the originally selected garage and is back on the road.

It comes after a mum was slapped with a parking fine after suffering a miscarriage in hospital, slamming the company responsible as “diabolical”.

Meanwhile, it was revealed that drivers are wasting hundreds every year on fuel through a simple maintenance error that costs nothing to fix.
