I was homeless but now live in a van with a bed, tiny bathroom & space for my four pets – I couldn’t be happier

A WOMAN who was left homeless has shared how she now lives on the road in a converted camper van and couldn’t be happier.

Luna, who lost her home in 2022, even has space for her four pets and a small kitchen area after mastering “frugal living”.

Speaking to Bob from the CheapRVLiving YouTube channel, Luna explained how she manages to keep costs down as she gets back on her feet.

She said: ” I had no idea about van life or anything, I just knew I had to make something happen.

“I set out on December 24 for the first time ever, I’d never even been camping before.

“It was horrifying, but it was something I needed to do and I’m making it work.

“It didn’t go at all how I expected it to go but…I have so much peace, it’s amazing.”

Luna, who suffers from a chronic health condition, explained that she began by stripping everything out of the back of the van before installing a bed, sink, kitchen unit, water tanks and a mini fridge.

Many of her items she managed to barter or get for free while donating possessions from her old life that she no longer needed.

One thing she did splash out on was a “portable power station” that has been a “godsend” and powers the entire set up.

While they do cost around £1,500 on Amazon, the cost is offset by the amount she saves on rent and other bills.

She also has a diesel-powered heater to stay warm during the winter nights out in the Arizona countryside.

Right at the back, Luna squeezed in a double bed which doubles as a sleeping space for her two dogs and two cats, as well as sheltering a large storage space.

She added: “Learning to live with chronic illness takes a lot of tenacity and willpower.

“I’ll do whatever I need to…there’s foodbanks we can go to if we don’t have enough food.

“Things like that help to stretch your money and budget better, you don’t eat out…you have to live within your means.

“I’m very much a loner so this works for me.”

It comes after another van lifer showed viewers on TikTok how they had converted their vehicle into a “cottage on wheels”.
