I was a WWE star ‘scarred for life in deadly house fire’… now I’ve got a very different job after retiring from the ring

THREE time WWE world champion Kane had a surprising career change after spending almost two decades in the ring

The Big Red Machine, real name Glenn Jacobs, wore a gruesome black and red mask – with long dark hair and a menacing look.

He has now forged a career in politics

He played the character Kane in the ring – and it was claimed used the mask to cover scarring he got in a house fire that killed his parents.

The tale went that Kane’s older half-brother The Undertaker set fire to his family’s funeral home – killing his parents.

He entered the ring wearing a terrifying black and red mask and barely ever spoke.

But after scooping 12  world tag team champion titles, the 7ft wrestler hung up his mask and decided to take on a different kind of opponent – politicians.

The 56-year-old successfully embarked on a fresh career in the Republican party and in 2018 was elected the mayor of Knox County, Tennesse.

He took home 66 per cent of the vote to defeat fellow candidate Democrat Linda Haney.

Kane’s campaign focused on reducing taxes, providing new jobs within the local area and providing a renewed focus on the quality of education.

He was re-elected in 2022, seeing off Democrat hopeful Debbie Helsley.

Speaking in 2019, Kane said: “Going out and performing is always awesome, especially when you go out for WrestleMania and there’s 100,000 people there.

“It’s the most incredible thing ever. By the same token, it’s hard work.

“I’ve always been somewhat interested in government and politics and as I got older, I realized how much influence and power government has over us.

“I’ve had some tremendous opportunities in my life, and I think the reason for that is, growing up in America, this is the land of opportunity.

“I would think ‘what can I do to ensure that my kids and my grandkids, and everybody else’s, would have those kind of opportunities?’

“Really that’s kind of why I got into this whole deal with politics, and again, I think a lot can be accomplished at the state and local levels.”

In 2021, Kane was inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame – with his bio describing him as being “extracted directly from your childhood nightmares”.

It reads: “For years, the sadistic Superstar wore a ghoulish face mask designed to conceal hideous burns from a fire supposedly started by Undertaker years before.

“Consumed by an infernal desire to set ablaze the lives of his fellow Superstars, Kane leaves a scorched path of destruction behind his fiery footsteps.

“Some of The Big Red Monster’s more demented acts have included setting a WWE Hall of Famer on fire, hitting a WWE executive with a Tombstone, kidnapping too many Superstars to mention and forcing Lita to marry him.

“No one is safe from his twisted desires and demonic impulses. Least of all, it would seem, Kane himself.”

The 7ft wrestler was part of the sport for almost 20 years
