‘I was a bargain, no? I mean, f***ing hell’ – Fabian Schar jokes about his £3million Newcastle transfer fee

NEWCASTLE defender Fabian Schar declared himself to be a bargain after he was reminded of his Newcastle price tag.

Schar, 31, transferred to Newcastle in 2018 for a cool £3million.

Since then, the Swiss international has gone on to make 119 appearances, and has been a key component of the Magpies mean defence this season.

Asked what he thought of the price tag by Andy Sixsmith, he said: “I was a bargain, no?! I mean, f***ing hell…!?

“Seriously, I just play my part. I love this club so much – it means so much to me and I’m thankful we’re getting what we deserve.”

As well seeing a surprise charge into the top four in the Premier League, Newcastle have also reached the League Cup semi-final for the first time since 1976.

It came after beating Leicester 2-0 in the quarter-final on Tuesday.

Schar added: “It’s what we all want – a semi-final. The whole squad, the crowd, the whole city, we were all desperate to get to the semi-finals and I am delighted for the whole team.

“It was difficult against Leicester. It was a quarter-final and it was a big opportunity for us.

“We know that and with it being a home game we knew we had a chance of going to the semi-finals.

“Now we can look forward to even bigger games. At the moment we enjoy it we are through then we look at who we play next in the competition as it will be in our hands. We are just looking forward to it and trying to get to a final.”

In the semi-final they must beat Southampton over two-legs for a spot in the final and a shot at winning their first domestic trophy since 1955.

However, it is their last realistic shot at a trophy this season after they suffered a shock elimination in the FA Cup at the hands of Sheffield Wednesday.

Newcastle are next in action against Fulham on Sunday.
