‘I want to be truthful’: Sia admits to surgery in powerful message to fans

Australian singer Sia has revealed she has undergone surgery in a powerful message to her followers.

The Chandelier hitmaker, 47, said she recently gained weight while on medication and wanted to be honest with her fans “so she doesn’t contribute to the system that tells us we aren’t enough”.

She admitted on X “I am insecure like most people and being in the public eye gives me anxiety, so I’ve made the choice to alter my appearance for my own confidence issues.”

“Had to take a medication that made me put on a lot of weight that I just can’t shift with exercise or thyroid meds so I went in for lipo today,” her post began.

“Please know that I am so lucky to have the resources to change the way I look and that when you see me looking crazy foxy again that I want you to know it did not come from diet and exercise.”

Underneath, Sia’s fans praised her honesty.

“We stand with you! Thank you for your honesty and hope you recover well! Sending positive vibes babe,” one fan commented underneath.

According to Better Health Victoria, liposuction “is a form of invasive surgery in which localised deposits of fat are removed to reshape or reduce one or more areas of the body”.

Sia revealed two months ago that she had a face lift while addressing the audience at an awards ceremony.

Presenting the Outstanding Achievement in Medicine award to her “good friend” Dr. Ben Talei at the 2023 Daytime Beauty Awards, the Chandelier singer said, “I’m a pop star that normally hides my face and doesn’t lie about shit.”

The singer, who is notorious for wearing a large blonde wig that covers her face, hasn’t been shy when it comes to telling people about the work she’s had done.

Before her rise to fame in 2014, Sia worked with multiple pop artists on writing songs, and has always been open about that exposure to their fame being the leading factor in her decision to hide her face.

In a 2021 interview with Gabor Mate, she revealed her insecurities had previously driven her to have cosmetic work done.

“I’ve had liposuction twice on my chin thinking I had a double chin and it turned out to be muscles that I use to sing,” she said.
