Olaplex just launched the No.4D Clean Volume Detox Dry Shampoo.
The formula absorbs oil and dirt without leaving behind residue.
One editor with fine, wavy dark-brown hair tried it and is sharing her review.
Dry shampoo and I haven’t always gotten along. Given the white residue it typically leaves behind, it’s harder than you might realize to find a good formula for dark hair, and so I’ve often just gone without using it. That’s not to say I don’t wish dry shampoo and I had a better relationship. As someone who hits the gym four to five days a week, I’m constantly looking for ways to refresh my blowout and avoid washing my hair.
I’ve tried plenty of formulas over the years, but few have impressed me instantly until the new Olaplex No.4D Clean Volume Detox Dry Shampoo ($30). It’s an entirely new category for the brand, which is a pretty big deal. Olaplex created it to address pain points you commonly see from other dry shampoos on the market like white residue, itchy scalp, and chalky texture.

What I Like About the Olaplex No.4D Clean Volume Detox Dry Shampoo
The Olaplex No.4D Clean Volume Detox Dry Shampoo is designed to absorb oil and dirt on the scalp and hair without leaving behind any white residue and grit that most dry shampoos bring with them. The formula contains three star ingredients: rambutan seed extract to neutralize odor and soothe the scalp, micro starch to absorb oil, and, of course, the brand’s patented bond-building technology to improve hair health.
When I first used the dry shampoo, it appeared like nothing came out, and I thought I’d forgotten to shake it before use. In reality, the formula is just clear, so it didn’t leave behind any visible traces on my roots – a total game changer. I’ve used other dry shampoos before that claim to not leave behind white dust, but they still end up making my roots look a little chalky. That’s not the case with this one, though.
After working it in with my hands, it makes my hair feel truly clean without leaving behind any gritty residue. It also adds some volume to my roots, which is a major bonus as my fine hair gets flat after a few days.
How to Use the Olaplex No.4D Clean Volume Detox Dry Shampoo
I apply the Olaplex No.4D Clean Volume Detox Dry Shampoo by sectioning my hair into four parts. I use a thin comb to divide up my hair, allowing me to spray the product directly onto my scalp. Then, I let it sit and absorb for a few minutes while I get dressed or do my makeup before rubbing it in with my fingertips. Last, I’ll run a brush through my hair from roots to ends just to ensure it’s fully blended.
I’ve used the dry shampoo in all manner of ways. Most commonly, I’ll spray it into my hair before running out the door, but I’ve also used it at night to allow me to wake up with fresh hair and before going to the gym to keep sweat and oil at bay.
What to Consider Before Trying the Olaplex No.4D Clean Volume Detox Dry Shampoo
The Olaplex No.4D Clean Volume Detox Dry Shampoo is $30, which isn’t super pricy, but it’s also not the cheapest option on the market. I believe it’s worth it for the size of the can alone. It’s also worth noting that if you’re someone with super-oily hair, this may not be able to bring you back to that just-washed state. It is, however, going to help give your hair a little refresh when it’s moderately oily or dirty, allowing you to extend the time between washes a little longer.
Where Is the Olaplex No.4D Clean Volume Detox Dry Shampoo Available?
