FANCY a New Year’s dip?
With December 31 just a day away, shoppers are stocking up on party snacks to see in 2024 in style.

And if you’re hosting a bash this New Year’s Eve, you best have some crisps and dips in the cupboard to go alongside the bubbly.
Hayley Minn tucked in to a range of Tex Mex combos and dips – usually consisting of sour cream and chive, salsa, nacho cheese and guacamole – from supermarkets and rated them out of five.

ALDI was selling its dips separately, at 99p each at my local shop.
It made it slightly more expensive than buying its £1.99 combo, although you do get bigger pots.
However, all three tubs were incredibly tasty.
The sour cream was nice and thick and had a lovely chive flavour while both the salsa and guacamole had a chunky consistency – which I loved – and took these dips to the Mex.

Iceland Tex Mex Dip Selection, 210g, £2 (or 3 for £5)

WHEN you combine it with other dips in the supermarket’s three for £5 offer, Iceland’s dip selection is the cheapest – although it was missing nacho cheese.
Unfortunately, it also tasted cheap.
I really wasn’t a fan of the guacamole, and the sour cream barely had any chive flavour.
The salsa was OK but could have done with being spicier.
All in all, this is one to dip out of.

The salsa and sour cream were tasty, with the flavours in both coming through nicely, but the guac and nacho cheese proved disappointing.
The guac was too smooth and lacked seasoning, while the nacho cheese simply wasn’t tangy enough.

POSH supermarket’s Tex Mex Dip Trio not only tasted delicious, it was also one of the cheapest.
The sour cream and guacamole – which had a superb coriander flavour – both hit the spot in my test.
Unfortunately, the salsa proved a bit of a letdown and needed a bit more of a kick.

M&S Mexican Style Fiesta Dips 428g, £3.20

AS you would expect from M&S, all four of the dips packed a flavourful punch.
The nacho cheese was so cheesy and also had a spicy kick.
Meanwhile, you could really taste the lime in the guacamole and salsa, which I couldn’t massively in the others I tried.
The only downside is this is on the pricier side.

WHAT’S nacho to love about Sainsbury’s Tex Mex Selection dips.
The guacamole, salsa and chilli cheese all had a wonderful, fiery kick, while the sour cream was flavoured really nicely with chives.
Plus, if you use your Nectar Card it’s even better value.
This was definitely my Mexican fave.

LIDL also sold its dips separately in my local – but you do still get a lot more sauce for your money than at some of the other supermarkets.
The sour cream was packed with chives, while the salsa was nice and tangy, although not as chunky as I’d have liked.
While all really tasty, my favourite of the three was the Nacho Chilli Cheese, as you got a real kick from the jalapenos.

WHILE Tesco does include a cheese dip in its selection box – unlike some of its rivals – overall the flavours dipped below expectations.
My favourite was the sour cream, as the chives came through really strongly, and I also enjoyed the spicy jalapeno cheese.
But the salsa and guacamole were too bland and not chunky enough.
