TIKTOK has resulted in all kinds of ‘hacks’ and travel gadgets that claim to change the way you fly.
One of which is the well-loved ‘foot hammock‘ – so I thought I would try it out for myself.

The foot hammocks are meant to make it much easier on your legs when flying in economy, especially on long flights.
The way it works is by attaching it to the seat in front, where it hangs in the footwell.
You then place your feet into it, which puts your back and legs in a much comfier position than the seats.
I tested it out myself on a Ryanair flight to Spain, which while short, was very cramped as I found myself in the dreaded middle seat.
At first look, the foot hammock is a great travel item as it packs flat, so won’t take up much room in your backpack.
However, as I tried to fit it to the seat, I found that I had to have read the instructions before hand – which I hadn’t – otherwise had no idea how.
After a fellow passenger sitting next to me also aided me, we worked out that you place the strap over the arms of the tray table, before pushing it up to keep it in place.
You then adjust the hammock to the height you want, tightening it or loosening it.
Kara GodfreyI wasn’t sure as the hammock means your feet are forced on top of each other[/caption]
To fit both of your feet in, you will have to take off both your shoes so make sure you are sitting near your mates or you will get some dirty looks from other passengers.
And while it was certainly a novelty at first, it quickly wore off.
It was comfy for the first few minutes but due to the pressure of my feet on the flimsy piece of fabric, my feet ended up on top of each other – not the comfiest.
I also ended up taking my feet in and out as they kept swinging unless I applied a lot of pressure.
I could see the appeal if you were a taller passenger, as at 5″5 I can easily fit in economy.
However, I don’t think the hack is all it’s cracked up to be when it claims to “transform economy travel” like TikTok users swear by.
If you are desperate for extra legroom, I suggest booking exit row seats or bulkhead seats – or just shelling out the extra cost.
We also tested out the viral travel pillow – here is what we thought.
