I stopped playing the lottery for 4 years – then I won a share of massive £1m jackpot just weeks after returning to game

A MAN who stopped playing the lottery for four years won a share of the massive £1m jackpot just weeks after returning to the game.

Myke Brooke, 50, from Dudley, West Midlands, bagged himself the huge lumpsum after signing up to the Postcode Lottery.

Myke Brooke gave up buying tickets four years ago but recently started again

The dad-of-two won the whopping amount on the Postcode Lotto

The dad-of-two stopped buying tickets after making the decision to spend his money on essentials only.

However, since losing his step-mum Kelly to cancer in January 2021, he started “praying to butterflies” and decided to buy another ticket last month.

The winning ticket landed him with £90,909 which Myke said “couldn’t have come at a better time” as he cares for his bed-bound dad Mervin, 70.

He told BirminghamLive: “She loved butterflies and whenever I see one, I say, ‘Hi Kel’.

“And a few times I’ve looked at one and I’ve just said, ‘Kelly, help me in any way you can, help me’.

“I only rejoined three weeks ago. I’m feeling very, very lucky and I think it’s down to her.

“It’s a life-changing amount of money and it couldn’t have come at a better time.”

Myke said the last few years have been “so hard” but the money will be a huge help.

His dad was diagnosed with an untreatable brain tumour and the pair were spending the evening celebrating with a steak and some whiskey.

The lottery rang Myke a few days before they turned up on his doorstep.

After keeping the amount hidden from him, Myke said it was an “unbelievable shock” when he saw the cheque.

Ten of his neighbours at the postcode DY5 4AJ also won the money prize.

It comes after a group of lucky Brits bagged themselves £3.2million on the same draw.

The huge prize was won by more than 1,000 locals on a Greater Manchester estate.

Another fortunate resident scooped an entire £388k Postcode Lottery prize due to a quirk.

The winner from Runcorn in Cheshire, was only the person playing in the WA7 2YN post code – leaving them with the jackpot all to themselves.
