‘I spent 3 WEEKS not knowing’ – 7 buttons even pro drivers don’t know how to use… & the switch you must NEVER press

A PROFESSIONAL driver has admitted he spent three weeks not knowing what a number of buttons were for in his cab.

The admission came after another HGV driver went through and showed exactly what each one was for.

TikTok user known as ‘Ash_the_trucker’ went to the social media site to explain what each one did.

Brit Ash describes himself as a “newly passed HGV Class 1 driver” and has already got more than 1,000 followers to his account.

Ash said: “I’ve seen a few videos going around of newly passed drivers and the buttons in their cabs, so I want to make a little video of what they do.”

He adds: “So let’s have a look what they do, shall we?”

The footage cuts to a cartoon character saying: “What does this button do?”

It then quickly cuts back to Ash’s cab and a shot of his dashboard with a row of buttons.

On the far left is one showing a cab appearing to smash into a vehicle in front.

He says: “This one is your collision warning. Say if you’re on the motorway and the traffic is slowing down and you’ve not noticed, there’s a sensor at the front and it will sense that the traffic is slowing down and you haven’t, so it will make a horrendous noise and the slam your anchors on.”

Moving to the next button, which seems to show a vehicle moving into the next lane, Ash said: “This one is your lane assist.

“So if you go out of your lane, it warns you… daft drivers, you’ll know how annoying that is.”

Moving once again to the right, Ash said: “This is your hill assist. So if you’re on a steep hill and you’re struggling to get going, that will stop you from rolling back.”

Then going to the next set of buttons, Ash said: “This is your suspension.

“So as you see here on the dash there, we’re not quite level… so press the button and there we are.”

Continuing, the HGV driver said: “This is for your axle. So for an Arctic it’s your front and on the 26 tonners, it’s the back axle.

“So at the moment, mine is up, so you can put it down.

“So when you’re carrying a lot of weight that just automatically goes down.

“And it might start automatically flashing on your dashboard which means you’ve just got to put the switch in the correct position.”

Next up is the traction control.

Ash warned: “Don’t f**king touch that one.”

Moving on again, he said: “This is your diff lock.

“So that is, if you’re going on a muddy building site or it’s a bit icy and you’re struggling to get going… Don’t drive around with your diff lock on, not a good idea.

“It’s only to get you going.”

Ash then moves over to the other side of the steering wheel.

He said: “On this side we can see, this one is your reverse warning, so turn it off for no beeps. Turn it on for beeps when you’re reversing.

Ash continued: “This little bad boy here is your light at the back.

“So when you’re picking up trailers in the pitch black and you can’t f**king see, there’s your torch.

“And that’s about it for buttons.”

Despite the video covering something of a niche topic, it has become something of a hit on the site, having been watched some 19,100 times, picking up around 450 likes along with 34 comments.

One commentator wrote: “Such a good video, I’ve been wondering for three weeks,” before adding a couple of laughing emojis.

Another person jokingly said: “I press them all, just for the crack… 21yrs in the game.”

A third added: “Thank you for taking the time to explain.”

Elsewhere, here’s how much a HGV driver can earn.

A mum-of-four has revealed how she quit her office job to become a lorry driver – and says she now gets more cash and more time with her kids.
