The care home worker was just one of 14 residents who hit the jackpot in the PE7 2AS area.

Splitting £1million between them, Caroline was lucky enough to take home a lump sum just one year before her retirement.

But the heartbreaking reality behind her win soon struck.

Carol’s husband, who sadly died last year, was originally the one who paid £12-a-month to play.

Despite not being here to spend the winnings, Caroline said she plans to splash the cash on everything the couple planned to do if they ever won the lotto.

She said: “I wish my husband Paul was here to see it. He passed away last year.

“It was him who started the lottery. I think he’s looking down on us today.

“I’m 66 at the end of the year and I’ll be retiring.

“This will mean I can do a lot of the things that me and my husband said we would always do if we won the lottery.”

Caroline, who has two sons and three grandchildren, said the win can also help her support her family.

She added: “I can help my family now, and that’s what my husband would have wanted.”

It comes after a whole neighbourhood won an incredible £11.2million.

Homeowners in Deal were lucky enough to scoop a share of the huge prize in what is thought In what is thought to be the biggest win for the whole of Kent yet.

And an OAP recently secured £333,000 on the Postcode Lottery but was told she would only take home a third because of an age-old pact.

In Birmingham, a great gran-of-five bagged £111,111 as part of a £1m win amongst her and eight neighbours.

Joan Buckingham revealed what her lucky charm was ever since she bought the first one a decade ago.

And one group of neighbours on a Manchester estate won £3.2million between them this summer.
