I scooped £500,000 in the lottery after my husband bought me two tickets as a surprise – here’s how I’ll spend the money

A STUNNED woman has banked half a million pounds after her husband bought two winning lottery tickets in her name.

Alison Bewick, 57, was in shock after husband Gary, 61, entered their postcode in Chester-Le-Street, County Durham to the People’s Postcode Lottery weekly Millionaire Street prize.

Mr Bewick, a primary school caretaker, said he signed up for the jackpot in the hope of treating his wife, but couldn’t yet process the £500,000 size of her winnings.

“The reason I signed (Alison) up is because I want her to have everything,” he told The Northern Echo.

“I expected it to be a cheque for £1,000 and I would have enjoyed buying a few knick-knacks.”

Mrs Bewick echoed her husband’s surprise, saying the winnings would change the trajectory of her family’s future.

“They’ll be made up for us – it’ll secure their futures,” she said.
“This means so many nice things to our family and we’re a very strong family. We work together.”

The excited couple is already compiling ideas on what to do with their new piles of cash.

On the agenda is a new car for their son who’s about to graduate university, a classic 1960s Mini Cooper for Mr Bewick and a slew of exotic getaways.

“I’d love to go to Norway. I’ve honestly never really thought it would be a reality though. But now I guess we can,” Mr Bewick said.

“We like climbing, so Norway with the mountains, landscape and cool fresh air would be a dream.”

The couple is also planning a trip to Key West in Florida.

Two other households in the same postcode – DH2 2XP – have hit the same jackpot, with their tickets nabbing each £250,000.
