I host Wheeler Dealers…‘No.1 safety priority’ driving this winter takes 10 seconds to fix – but it’s easy to get wrong

WHEELER Dealers host Mike Brewer has urged drivers to take 10 seconds to fix their “number one safety priority” this winter.

Speaking on TikTok, Mike warned against neglecting the quick and easy check which could save you from a hefty fine.

In the social media clip, he said: “I can’t stress how important it is, especially during the winter months, to have a clear windscreen.

“It really is priority number one for your safety.

“I use a really good quality screenwash…it goes down to -36C.

“You’d basically have to be in the North Pole for it to start failing and freezing over.”

Thankfully, checking your screenwash level and topping it up is really easy, as Mike explained.

Simply pop the bonnet of your car and locate the screen wash filler cap.

The filler caps in your engine bay are usually colour-coded, with different colours for brake fluid, engine oil, water and so on.

Usefully, screenwash is almost always represented by a blue cap, though make sure to check this in your owner’s manual before filling up.

Once you’ve found the filler port, just take off the cap and pour in a little fresh screenwash until filled to the recommended level, which can also be found in your manual.

Mike also shared a handy tip to make the wash extra effective in the winter months.

Usually, you would take a small amount of concentrated screenwash and water it down to make it go further.

But in cold weather, this can raise the freezing point of the liquid and cause your windscreen to ice over.

Instead, consider using neat screenwash when low temperatures are forecast to make it extra effective.

Screenwash can be picked up for as little as £3.65 online, while the one Mike used in his video can be found for £4.99.

It’s certainly cheaper than the alternative as driving with an iced up windshield could actually see you collared for not being in full control of your vehicle.

Serious cases would attract penalties similar to those for using a phone behind the wheel, with fines up to £1,500 and six points on your licence.

It comes after the TV star opened up on how over two decades on screen almost cost him his marriage.
