I grew up a Liverpool fan but Harry Kane’s NOT from Tottenham and has big decision amid Man Utd interest, says Gerrard

HARRY KANE will be asking questions about his Tottenham future similar to what Steven Gerrard did back in his heyday, according to the Liverpool legend.

Fresh from becoming Spurs’ all-time record goalscorer, the striker took his tally to 55 for England as they beat Ukraine 2-0 on Sunday.

That was just days after he surpassed Wayne Rooney’s total to become the all-time leading marksman for the Three Lions in the win over Italy.

Kane, 29, only has another year left on his deal at Tottenham and has Manchester United chasing his signature this summer.

Meanwhile, with speculation mounting that Spurs chairman Daniel Levy will refuse to sell him to a Premier League rival, Bayern Munich are also believed to be leading the transfer chase to sign the striker.

Despite all of his own personal success with the North London club, a lack of trophies has forced Kane, who failed to secure a move to Manchester City in 2021, to consider his future at the age of 29.

Gerrard infamously had the same issue when Chelsea came calling for him in 2005 as he considered leaving LIverpool, but despite it being a similar scenario, he explained how Kane’s dilemma is different to his.

Speaking to Channel 4 as pundit on the game, he said: Listen, I don’t want to open a can of worms, he’s got a big decision to make career-wise.

“I’ve been there myself where you’re thinking is my team good enough to get me the medals? Am I going to get out of my career what I want to get?

“It’s different for me because I grew up a Liverpool fan from the city, all my family were Liverpool fans, and I knew winning one trophy more with Liverpool would have meant a lot more to me than being anywhere else.

“He’s not from Tottenham, he’s not been through Tottenham all the time, he’s got a big decision to make. I can’t give him any advice on that but I bet you every single day of his life now moving forward it’s gonna be on his mind.”

The sacking of Antonio Conte as Spurs boss will not have helped the situation despite the Italian’s furious blast at his squad last week.

Leaving fellow pundit Joe Cole to say: “Stevie won loads of trophies in his career, Harry Kane’s nearly 30 and he’s not lifted silverware so for a player of his ability that will be a travesty. He’s got a big decision to make.

“I’m sure it’s not going to be something he’s thinking about now, because it’s all England now, but come tomorrow morning he’s back with his Tottenham head on and they have a big decision.

“I just think it would be a travesty if he finishes his career without winning a trophy because he’s one of the all-time greats in this country, that’s for sure.”
