‘I am beyond thrilled’: Kylie Minogue set to receive another huge award as singer named Brits Global Icon

Just weeks after winning her first Grammy in 20 years, Kylie Minogue is set to receive another huge music honour.

The Australian singer has been announced as this year’s recipient of the Global Icon Award and will also be a performer at the BRIT Awards in London on March 2.

“I am beyond thrilled to be honoured with the Global Icon Award and to be joining a roll call of such incredible artists,” Minogue said in a statement.

“The UK has always been a home from home so the BRITs have a very special place in my heart. I have some amazing memories from the awards over the years and I can’t wait to be back on the BRITs stage. See you at the O2!”

The 55-year-old joins an elite club with only four other performers.

The last person to get the recognition was Taylor Swift in 2021, with other recipients including: Elton John, David Bowie and Kylie’s Kids duet partner Robbie Williams.

Minogue is only the second woman and second non-British performer to collect the special award, which was once named the BRIT Icon Award before “global” was added to the title to recognise Swift.

The ceremony is the UK’s answer to the ARIAs, with the Padam Padam singer also nominated for International Artist of the Year, so she could walk away with two trophies on the night.

The Padam Padam singer is also nominated for International Artist of the Year, so she could walk away from the ceremony, which is the UK’s equivalent of the ARIAs, with two trophies.

Fans were outraged the viral TikTok hit didn’t earn an individual nomination, lashing out online at the snub and threatening to “riot”.

It’s not the only special award the singer is collecting in March, with Minogue named an honouree at the annual Billboard Women in Music event a few days after the BRITs.

Earlier this month Padam Padam won the singer her second ever Grammy Award, when it was named the inaugural winner of the Best Pop Dance Recording category.

Her previous win was Best Dance Recording for Come Into My World in 2004.

Last year Minogue picked up her first ARIA Award in more than 20 years, when she won Best Pop Release for Padam Padam, giving her a total of 17 ARIAs in the poolroom.
