It had motors fans excited after the suggestion it could soon be available in a number of European markets.

Its appearance came days after French magazine Auto Moto quoted the head of Hyundai France, Lionel French Keogh, as confirming the Casper would arrive in the market by the end of 2024.

Mr Keogh said the Casper small SUV will arrive on the French market, and hinted that the EV will benefit from the electric subsidy in France.

Reports say the Casper will indeed arrive as an electric car, not offering any of the 1.0-litre three-cylinder petrol engines used in Korea.

The Casper could possibly borrow its electric powertrain from the Kia Ray EV.

But despite its competitive specification, the Casper will remain priced below £17,000, reports Auto Moto.

Hyundai’ ‘s latest EV would liklely be competing with the Dacia Spring and the Citroën e-C3 in Europe.

Hyundai has previously hinted that the Casper could make it to European shores after an electric conversion.

But production costs of making a small car in Europe and the EU’s new GSR2 safety regulations are just some of the reasons preventing this so far.

Moreover, demand for the Casper in Korea alone is almost sufficient to fulfil the capacity of the plant where it’s built.

According to data from Hyundai, 45,451 Caspers were sold last year.

It comes as Maserati revealed it is bringing an EV version of a supercar owned by David Beckham to the UK – and it’s so powerful it’s likely to blow your socks off.

Maserati also has further plans to develop its EV range in the coming years.

A new all-electric large SUV – thought to be based on Stellantis’ STLA large platform – which is expected in 2027 as well as an electric Quattroporte in 2028.

Meanwhile, Lotus will launch a long-awaited EV sports car priced at £75,000 although fans were hoping for something else.

The iconic new motor will be an “essential” part of the Lotus line-up and is due to go on sale in 2027, according to company bosses.

And a Bentley once owned by a beloved comedy legend has gone on sale for £150,000.
