‘Hurts my feelings’: Singer Billie Eilish slams online body shaming

Billie Eilish has once again spoken out about body image and online body shaming, confessing that online comments still “hurt my feelings.”

“Dude, I don’t even know. It’s tough, man,” Eilish told British Vogue. “Honestly, nobody can say anything about my body that I don’t have a stronger opinion about.”

For years, the 21-year-old has battled online criticism and hate over her body image and style.

Reflecting on the comments she receives, the Ocean Eyes singer noted the impact such commentary would have had on her as a kid.

“I also think that if I was younger, like if the internet talked about me the way they do now when I was like 11, I don’t think I would be able to exist, to be honest,” she said.

“I like myself more than I used to, and I’m more interested in how I feel than how they feel,” she added. “But then also that might be a load of bullshit because it still hurts my feelings like a sonab–ch.”

The star’s mental health has suffered as a result of the continuous criticism, but Eilish shared her continually growing list of coping mechanisms which include taking baths, playing games on her phone, hanging out with family, and big dogs.

“But it’s really hard, you know?” she admitted. “I’ve had a rough time, TBH, and I’m still figuring it out. But it’s definitely a weird life; I’ll say that.”

In her teen years, the singer and vocal advocate for body acceptance opened up about growing up under a microscope in the music industry and the pressures of social media prior to the release of her 2021 album Happier Than Ever.

“I see people online, looking like I’ve never looked, and immediately I am like, ‘Oh my God, how do they look like that?'” she explained.

“I know the ins and outs of this industry, and what people actually use in photos, and I actually know what looks real can be fake. Yet I still see it and go, ‘Oh God.’ That makes me feel really bad.”

Eilish said despite her insecurities, she remains “very confident” and “very happy” in her life.

“I’m obviously not happy with my body,” she clarified, before adding, “but who is?”
