Huge free upgrade for WhatsApp will affect millions – look out for new setting

WHATSAPP is readying a fresh update to keep your chat history intact when you switch phones.

The messenger app is reportedly working on a new conversation transfer option to easily move the chat history to a new Android device.

The new feature is currently being trialled among a handful of users through the Google Play Beta Program, according to WhatsApp blog WABetaInfo.

But it will allow users to move their chat history from the phone to another Android device so they may not need to back up their chat history on Google Drive before switching to a new device.

WhatsApp is developing the chat transfer option for a future update of the app.

The number of users currently testing out the update has reached its maximum, with the Program no longer taking on any more participants.

But if all goes well, then the update will be available for all other users worldwide.

The messenger app made it simple to move chats between Android and iOS with a new feature in July last year.

And it hasn’t stopped there.

WhatsApp is also working on a new feature that lets you save deleted texts for the first time.

You’ll be able to bookmark messages that were due to disappear.

It means you won’t lose important texts if you’ve got Disappearing Messages turned on.

That’s an automated WhatsApp feature that deletes messages after a certain period of time (like 24 hours) to boost your privacy.

But by using these so-called Kept Messages, certain texts won’t be automatically scrubbed from the chat.

How to get WhatsApp beta

To download WhatsApp beta for your smartphone you need to go to Google Play on your Android and search for WhatsApp.

Scroll down the page until you see “Become a Beta Tester”.
Tap the “I’m In” button and then click “Join” to confirm.

Now all you have to do is wait for the update to the beta version of the app.

Joining the WhatsApp beta on iOS is more difficult, and has limited capacity.
