A HUGE change is set to be introduced at Old Trafford cricket ground.

That’s after England’s Ashes dreams were cruelly ended by a weekend washout.

Ben Stokes’ men were looking good to level the series against Australia, setting up a winner-takes-all Fifth Test at the Oval.

England hit an incredible 592 in their first innings, leaving the visitors scrambling to stay in the game.

However, heavy rain washed away any chance of a cliffhanger in London.

England were only able to bowl for several hours on Saturday.

And yesterday’s blizzard saw zero cricket played in Manchester before the game was declared a draw, allowing Australia to retain the Ashes yet again.

According to the Mail, a major change is now set to take place at Old Trafford.

The capacity hit a whopping 22,500 for the five days.

But that is set to be reduced for next year’s visit from Sri Lanka.

The temporary stand was maxed out to 8,500 seats against the Aussies.

However, it’s reckoned a “much smaller” one will be in place when Sri Lanka come visiting.

And it could therefore limit the amount of disappointed people in the venue should there be another washout.

But England might be wise to choose to bat first if they ever win the toss again at Old Trafford.

That’s because no side who bowled first after a successful toss have ever won a Test match at the iconic ground.
