The initiative allows passengers who are traveling through the Hauts-de-France to purchase train tickets for just €1 (85p).

Hauts-de-France is a region in northern France and is home to popular holiday destinations like Lille, Amiens, and Dunkirk.

According to Euronews, the tickets will be valid on regional express train services, also known eTER, until August 27, 2023.

The discounted tickets originally went on sale on July 7, 2023, but more were released on July 25, 2023.

Tickets can be purchased for travel on any day of the week including the weekends and school holidays.

Only a set number of seats are available to buy per train, so Brits holidaying in the French region will need to act fast.

The tickets can be purchased from station counters in Hauts-de-France as well as the SNCF website.

Sun Online Travel found several €1 (85p) tickets still available to purchase from Calais to Lille in early August.

Holidaymakers will also be able to travel across Spain without spending a penny this summer.

Last year, the Spanish government introduced free rail journeys in a bid to help tackle the cost-of-living crisis in the country.

The initiative allowed passengers to travel on commuter and medium-distance trains for free until December 31, 2022.

But the free travel scheme has been extended until the end of 2023, which is good news for Brits because the tickets can be snapped by anyone – including tourists.

To redeem the free tickets, holidaymakers must travel on commuter and medium-distance trains that are operated by Renfe.

And, a new European train will take Brits to Spain without needing to fly.

Brits can reach France, which has been dubbed the world’s most popular holiday destination on the train thank to direct Eurostar services between London and Paris.
