JOCKEYS are in the money after getting a collective 22 per cent pay rise over the past two years.
Some would say it’s still not enough for putting their bodies and lives on the line every time they race.
PAJockeys have got a ten per cent pay rise this year – which combined with a 12 per cent rise last year means a 22 per cent jump over the past 24 months[/caption]
But at least now they will get a better rate of pay after agreeing a ten per cent pay rise for this year.
Jockeys got a 12 per cent pay rise in 2022 – taking the total to 22 per cent over the past 24 months.
It means Flat riders will now get an extra £15 per ride, taking the total to £157.90 every time they race.
Jumps jockeys get an extra £20 per ride meaning they get £214.63 in all.
The new pay deal comes at a time when jockeys are ditching Britain for riches – and in some cases just a better way of life – overseas.
Jockey couple Tyler Heard and Grace McEntee moved to the States.

Heard said he made more in one night there than he did from a month of riding in Britain.
Steven Astaire, co-chair of the jockey remuneration working party, said: “The current median annual income combined with rising costs is forcing many jockeys to leave the sport or ride overseas.
“It is in the best interests of all owners to ensure that there is fair and transparent remuneration for those who ride our horses, at all levels of the sport.
“The working group was set up to review total remuneration and costs and to identify a longer-term solution, which will also aim to reduce the onus on owners.”
