HAUT on high. Good fifth in Festival Plate at Cheltenham and stays well. Hard to win carrying 12st but solid place claims.
BURROWS SAINT 3
BURROWS deep. Fourth in 2021 National but unseated 12 months ago. Needed comeback run at Down Royal last time and will be much sharper. Place chance if finding his best.
CIEL DE NEIGE 2
SNOW to neige. Yet to win out of novice level and well held both starts this season. Best around two miles.
FAN DE BLUES 2
NOT a Fan. Grade 3 winner at best but hit and miss lately with a poor run at Fairyhouse last time. Not a certain stayer and something to prove.
FINAL ORDERS 3
FIN the hunt. Won five in a row before fair fifth in the Grand Annual at Cheltenham. Should be suited by trip and could have more to come. Chance if handling the fences.
AL DANCER 5
DANCER in step. Won the Grand Sefton over these fences last time in November and best after a break. Trip and track suits and this has long been the target. Big chance.
IL RIDOTO 3
IL healthy. Won a decent Cheltenham handicap in January and not disgraced when sixth in the Festival Plate. Jumps well so should enjoy the fences and likes a big field. On the shortlist.
GIN ON LIME 2
LIME sour. Unseated early in the Festival cross-country and form was patchy before that. On fair weight but needs to improve.
EPSON DU HOUX 3
DO Du. Solid sixth in Grand Annual at Cheltenham and best over 2m in the mud. On a fair mark and has a chance if staying this far.
ASHTOWN LAD 4
ASH on fire. Won Becher Chase well in December and has run over hurdles twice since to protect his handicap mark so he’s only 6lb higher. The Skeltons are in decent form and he’ll go close again.

UPPING THE ANTI 3
ON Up. Decent novice form but was only a distance second in a Grade 3 last time. Stays well and best has come in soft ground. Connections are respected and he could improve.
FANTASTIC LADY 2
LADY chased. Has decent form over this sort of trip at lower levels but was outclassed at Cheltenham and needs plenty of improvement.
BATTLEOVERDOYEN 2
BATTLE shipped. Hasn’t won for two years and struggled at Cheltenham last time. Down the weights and this trip suits but needs the testing fences to bring out his best.
GESSKILLE 4
GESS skilled. Second in the Grand Sefton and Becher over these fences this season before a quiet run at Donny. Coming back here ideal and he’ll be right in the mix again with a fair weight.
TOP VILLE BEN 1
TOP bottom. Followed good run in Ireland with poor effort at Cheltenham and has questions to answer.
PHOENIX WAY 3
WAY to go. Decent run at Ascot last time after a solid Cheltenham effort. Trip suits, yard in form and down weights. Place shout.
BATCIO 4
BAT man. Second in this last year and off handy weight again. Tipped up when rusty on comeback at Clonmel and can show true form here. Each-way claims.
DEMACHINE 2
DE is light. Fair fifth in Sky Bet Chase at Donny last time when stamina was stretched. Yard in form but likely to find a few too good.
KILTEALY BRIGGS 3
IN for Kil. Jumps well and likes trip but struggles in big fields. Well weighted if he can show his best.
NUMITOR 3
TOR draw. Two decent runs this season and likes this trip. Fair weight and is the type who does well in this race. Big price.
HEREDITARY RULE 1
HERE we go. Struggled in the Plate at Cheltenham and looks a little high in the handicap.
QUEL DESTIN 2
QUEL hell. Best on soft and a decent run at Sandown last time. Jumps well but needs more at this level.
HARDLINE 1
HARD to like. Last won in 2018 and has been struggling for a while. Hard to fancy.
BILL BAXTER 3
FITS Bill. Going well at lower levels and jumped nicely to score at Kelso. More on his plate but capable of better.
CELEBRE D’ALLEN 2
SELL Cel. Struggled in the Cheltenham Plate after a decent run at Sandown. Would prefer a longer trip.
COOPER’S CROSS 3
CROSS key. Broke a blood vessel when sixth at Doncaster last time after winning there. That’s a worry but he has shown lots of promise and could bounce back.
EQUUS DANCER 3
DAN dare. Good hurdles win at Uttoxeter and has decent chase form over this trip. This is tougher but yard won this last year and has a cracking overall record.
KILLER KANE 2
KANE ain’t able. Fair run at Kempton last time but would prefer longer trip and has climbed up the handicap.
DORKING LAD 1
DOR shut. Was boxing on when brought down at Ascot but needs more to score at this level.
FANTASTIKAS 1
KAS to go. Solid novice but has lost his way this season and poor at Cheltenham latest.
Templegate’s tip
AL DANCER can step away with another big win over the National fences.
Sam Thomas’s star took the Grand Sefton here in November and his shrewd trainer has wrapped him in cotton wool ever since.
There’s no better jockey over fences than Charlie Deutsch who can steer him home again.
Becher Chase winner Ashtown Lad looks the main threat with Gesskille and last year’s second Batchio also on the shortlist.
