This talented seven-year-old was a cracking second in the red-hot Greatwood Hurdle last season and was all tuned up for a repeat bid at Cheltenham’s Open meeting before the going turned too testing.
Conditions should be right up his street. This is no walkover but this lacks the strength of the Greatwood.
He has few miles on the clock for his age so there’s every chance he’ll improve way past his handicap mark of 133 this season.
FIDELIO VALLIS (2.00 Ascot, nb)
He comes from in-form Harry Derham and was just collared in the closing stages at Musselburgh last time.
He was coming back from nine months off there so may have just been feeling it. The handicapper has left his mark alone and a useful 5lb claimer takes over today which can’t hurt.

Sir Michael Stoute’s well-bred filly went close at Wolverhampton last time.
